There is a new fraud scheme using fake transaction alerts that we want to make our members aware of.
The fraudsters in this scheme have obtained both the victim’s cell number and last four digits of their card. They will send a text message designed to look like an account alert from AmFirst. This false text alert asks if the member made a transaction just like a real alert would. Then, the fraudsters are following up with a phone call from a toll free number masked to look like the AmFirst number.
They represent themselves as an AmFirst rep and request the member provide their card number, expiration date, CVV and PIN to validate.
From there, the fraudsters use the stolen card info.
Here are some important details to remember to avoid falling victim to these types of sophisticated fraud:
- We will never call you and ask for your card number, account number, PIN, social, etc.
- If a call seems suspicious, hang up and call us back at 205-320-4000
- AmFirst text alerts come from a 6-digit short code, not a 10-digit phone number
Stay safe, and contact AmFirst as soon as possible if you notice any suspicious activity in your transaction history.
