The AmFirst Story

About Us

Our credit union was founded during the Great Depression on July 23, 1936 when nineteen men employed by the Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railway Company pooled their money in a cigar box. Their mission: provide excellent financial services to the under-represented members of our community. Our great service and quality financial options quickly connected with the people of Alabama.

Today, we have more than 200,000 members and $2 billion in assets.

We’re proud to carry on our founding tradition by providing financial services that add value to your life and are easy to understand. Our 21 branch locations proudly serve the following Alabama counties: Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Chilton, Coosa, Cullman, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Walker, and certain areas of Mobile.

We have a 5-star rating from BauerFinancial, which measures the financial health of our credit union and investments. Our savings and checking accounts are insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).

New fee for loan payments:

Starting on January 1, 2023, there will be an $8.00 transaction fee for loan payments when members pay with a debit card.

If you are making a loan payment using your checking account and routing number (ACH) there will continue to be no transaction fee. Also, there will continue to be no transaction fee if you are using the transfer function in Online Banking to make a payment.
